Kampen

The view from the IJssel on the harbour, the town quay and the historical buildings of Kampen were a source of inspiration for artists. The Hanseatic city of Kampen at the mouth of the IJssel was once strategically located at the Zuiderzee and was nicknamed "Rotterdam of the Middle Ages". Everything in the city reminds you of that time, such as the Old City Hall, the Cellebroederspoort and the Nieuwe Toren. Art and culture can be found in the Stadsarchief, the Stedelijk Museum and the Huys der Kunsten. In winter, the inner city changes into one big open-air theatre during Kerst in Oud Kampen.

Anton Pieck Museum

Welcome to the world of Pieck, full of fantasy, fairy tales and nostalgia Anton Pieck (19 April 1895 - 24 November 1987) grew up at a time when the photo camera was still a novelty and carriages still drove through the streets. He captures the soul of the world around him in his sketchbook. Besides drawing, he paints, etches, illustrates and designs for various clients. He can empathise strongly with the character of the people and objects he captures. Through lived-in buildings and devoted persons, his works tell the story we all recognise and why we love his timeless representations. At the Anton Pieck Museum, you will discover his working methods and which diverse disciplines this dedicated artist mastered like no other. Come discover his famous calendar plates, etchings and illustrations. Be surprised by his oil paintings, travel drawings, woodcuts and designs for the Efteling Fairytale Forest as well as his work corner and his own etching press, which is still in use. On several screens, the Anton Pieck Image Bank can be consulted in which all kinds of images can be seen with more explanations attached and make the Anton Pieck experience complete. In addition, the museum offers two temporary exhibitions about a contemporary illustrator, or with work on a theme.
